ADVISORY BOARD

The role of the International Advisory Board is to provide advice and consultation to the Bank on business, international relations, legislative, regulatory and political issues. The Shari’ah Supervisory Board has a broad geographical mix and a proven track record in the practical implementation of Shari’ah law.
 

International Advisory Board

Senator Wyche Fowler, Jr.
Chairman of the Board for the Middle East Institute; former Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1996 to 2001; US Senator from Georgia from 1987 to 1993; US Representative from Georgia from 1977 to 1987; Member of Ways and Means and Foreign Affairs Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Congressional Arts Caucus.

Professor Samuel L. Hayes
Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking, Emeritus at the Harvard Business School; tenured faculty at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business; Chairman of the Finance Advisory Board of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; serves on the Boards of Swarthmore College, New England Conservatory of Music, Eaton-Vance mutual funds, Kobrick mutual funds, Tiffany & Company, and Telect, Inc.

R. Glenn Hubbard
Dean, Graduate School of Business, Columbia University (2004 to date), Russell L. Carson Professor of Economics and Finance, Graduate School of Business, Columbia University (1994 to date).  Member, Panel of Economic Advisors, Congressional Budget Office (2004-2006), Chairman, President’s Council of Economic Advisers (2001-2003), Chairman, Economic Policy Committee, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (2001-2003), Member, President’s Council on Science and Technology (2001-2003). David Nagel
President and Chief Executive Officer of PalmSource, Inc. (2001-2005), Chief Technology Officer at AT&T (1996-2001).  Senior Vice President at Apple Computer and head of the worldwide research and development group (1988-1996), Head of Human Factors research, NASA's Ames Research Center.  Adviser to the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee and NATO's Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development.   Serves on boards of 3i, Leapfrog, Inc., Tessera, Inc., ArcSoft (Chairman), and Epocrates, Inc., the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) at University of California, Berkeley, and the SETI Institute.

The Shari'ah Supervisory Board is composed of the following prominent scholars:

Shaikh Abdullah Sulaiman Al Meneea (Chairman)
Member of Grand Scholars Panel, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Expert of the Islamic Fiqh Academy; Retired Judge, Supreme Court in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Member of the Shari’ah Supervisory Boards of a number of Islamic banks and financial institutions.

Dr. Abdul Sattar Abdul Kareem Abu Ghuddah
Consultant, Dallah Al-Baraka Investment and Development Co., Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy; Member of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions, Bahrain; Member of the Shari’ah Supervisory Boards of a number of Islamic banks and financial institutions.

Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani
